What is Pilates for?

As a life long athlete I was interested in a career as a Physical Therapist because I wanted to help athletes feel better. I wanted to help them eliminate pain from their body, I wanted to help them get back onto the field faster, and I wanted to help them play better by helping them move better.

Then I found Pilates in 2012. I saw it help people recover faster than what I had experienced with my own injuries and also helped them move better overall. During the course of my practice with Pilates it has been there for me with my changing goals. It helped me recover and strengthen from hip surgery and is forever my go to when I am feeling achey in my lower back and hip. It has helped me cross train for 10ks and half marathons as well as become a stronger rock climber because I have become a more efficient mover. It was my only means of working out when I broke my hand and had a 2 year stretch of recovery from surgeries. And now it compliments my lifting sessions as I prep for my wedding.

Pilates is whatever you need it to be. No matter where you are in your fitness routine (newbie, athlete, gym go-er) I promise you it IS for you.

Laura Melgar

Hi! I’m Laura Melgar, a San Diego based Pilates Instructor + Personal Trainer. I help men and women bounce back from injury so they can do more of what they love: running, rock climbing, hiking, and living life to the fullest without injuries.

I’ve recovered from several surgeries (including a hip labral tear repair from playing rugby) and went from being medically told to give up my active hobbies to becoming a half marathoner.

Outside of fitness I am a dog mom, I love video games and adventuring & traveling with my husband.

My goal is to help you rebuild confidence in your body's movement, improve your strength, and help reduce your pain.
